Campbell Foster is unique as an actor with a long-standing legal background and an unprecedented knowledge of the betting and gaming industries in the UK and abroad. Known throughout the industry as ‘The Doctor’ he has run his own businesses as a horse racecourse bookmaker, a greyhound course bookmaker and he plays poker on the semi-professional circuit in this country and in the USA under the nickname ‘The Sheep’.
From the modest beginnings of a single pitch at Exeter racecourse Campbell Foster expanded his ‘Bet-Doctor’ bookmaking business to stand and accept bets at racecourses throughout the Midlands including Cheltenham (home of the famous annual Cheltenham Festival), Stratford, Warwick, Nottingham, Ludlow and Worcester where no bet was too large or too small and he was renowned for his professionalism and customer service. Having learned to ‘Tic Tac’ many years previously he applied this knowledge and incorporated the latest technology including racecourse computer and display, radio telephony and remote betting. He was appointed a director of the Association of Racecourse Bookmakers.
After greyhound racing involvement and ownership since the early 1980s Campbell added to his portfolio with betting pitches at Hall Green Stadium, Birmingham and at Brandon Stadium, Coventry where he became renowned as willing to lay a large bet and for his knowledge of greyhounds and racing in general. At Hall Green he sponsored the famous annual ‘Midland Flat’ competition and he remains a greyhound owner.
Campbell was at the forefront of the explosion in the popularity of poker as a leisure pursuit in the UK. He has played in tournaments, cash and ring games at casinos and other venues throughout England, Wales and as far afield as Ireland and the USA. He is a regular visitor to Las Vegas where he is well-known in the poker rooms of all the major poker venues.
Campbell has applied his knowledge and expertise within the film and TV industries to benefit the likes of Ladbrokes, William Hill and Sky. He has trained and tutored other performers in the art of ‘Tic Tac’ and choreographed Tic Tac and related sequences for commercial purposes. He has appeared as an expert interviewee on programmes such as ‘The Dogs’ on Sky TV and as a greyhound and racing pundit on channels such as William Hill TV.
